Basic Clinical Massage Therapy: Integrating Anatomy and Treatment (Lww Massage Therapy & Bodywork Series)
Published in Paperback by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins (January, 2003)
Authors: James H. Clay and David M. Pounds
Average review score:

Well-written book and a must buy
This book was quite organized and filled with lots of information important for the massage student needing to take the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. I used this book and the following which is also sold on amazon.com:
The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers
(Topics: Human Anatomy, Physiology and Kinesiology) Vol 1
(ISBN: 0971999643)

The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers
(Topics: Clinical Pathology and Recognition of Various Conditions) Vol 2
(ISBN: 0971999651)

The Ultimate Study Guide for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork: Key Review Questions and Answers
(Topics: Massage Therapy and Bodywork: Theory, Assessment and Application. Professional Standards, Ethics and Business Practices) Vol 3

(ISBN: 097199966X)

The last 3 study guides are on the mark with the type of questions asked on the national test. My advice is to buy all four books. I passed the national certification examination for therapeutic massage and bodywork easily with the help of these four books.

Basic Clinical Massage Therapy:
This book has been wonders for my studies to become a licensed massage therapist. I will keep it handy also in my practice. The illistrations are great, and really help with kinesiology.

Exactly what I wanted!
I know nothing of massage and I couldn't figure out heads or tails from the many massage books I had purchased until I received Basic Clinical Massage Therapy by Clay and Pounds.

Will I read the book in it's entirety and use every method, absolutely not, but now I can literally see the muscles and the anatomy and understand what it is that I'm working on in each and every part of the body and do some good, it's a bargain at $45!

I'd say this is the bible of massage!

Beside Quiet Waters: Reflections on the Psalms in Our Everyday Lives
Published in Paperback by Continuum Pub Group (April, 1999)
Author: James D. Capozzi
Average review score:

Thought Provoking!!
This work of art opens your eyes to hidden meanings behind actions, reactions and unconscious behavior. After reading each passage and defining each story from my own perspective, I now examine the actions not only of myself, but of others in certain situations. A person of any background will surely be able to relate to many of the situations discussed in the book. This is a definite winner. A book that can be read over and over and still create new meanings. Great job!!

Titanically enjoyable!
The relation of the psalms to real life was a satisfying feeling for me to read. Once I started to read, I didn't stop. Pretty soon the 200 pages was over, and I wanted more. Let's hope Dr. Capozzi shares more of his metaphorically rich works. Pure self-serving motivation!

" Beside Quiet Waters " an inspirational book on the Psalms
I read a different Psalm in this book each day. No matter who you are or what walk of life you come from this book will reflect some of your daily views of life or values. I find some of the authors quotes about the psalms to be very comforting in times when I am down. He uses everyday life to reflect on the Psalms and bring them to life. All in all i enjoy reading a different Psalm and passage each day to give me a bright outlook on the new day ahead. Sometimes it just inspires me to press on when every thing seems so bleak and dim. I'll reflect on a funny story the author brings to life and i'll smile. I think that if your in for a great book look no further than " Beside Quiet Waters "

Biofilms II: Process Analysis and Applications
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (21 April, 2000)
Author: James D. Bryers
Average review score:

Expert Review
"The book fulfills its promises and covers most, if not all new insights achieved in the field over the past ten years, and is to be recommended greatly for all those studying biofilms, both microbiologists and engineers. The book is written by authors from various disciplines, but carries the strong signature of the engineer." --Henk J. Busscher, University of Groningen

Expert Review
A welcome addition--the selection of authors is first-rate. It is very well-edited and constructed. The book is highly recommended for anyone interested in biofilms. In fact, it is a must for biofilm researchers. --Ron J. Doyle, Professor of Microbiology, University of Louisville

A new light for Biofilms
This amazing new book opens a new doorway to biofilms for me. An excellent book, with new technological ideas that other books leave out. If bacteria could read they'd be breathless, which they are anyway for they don't have any mitochondria. Can't wait for the movie!

Baptist Study Bible

Best study Bible!
I love this Bible - I make sure this is the Bible our church gets for our graduation gifts for the seniors every year - it's also the Bible I bought my wife. The print is clear, and it's a durable Bible with lots of accurate notes.

A wealth of info, a great buy!
This study Bible is one of the best versions out there. It is very easy to follow and understand. It has outlines and footnotes that allow you to apply each verse to everyday life.

BEST STUDY BIBLE AVAILABLE
I am a Seminary student and have gone through many study bibles. However, this work by W.A. Criswell is by far the best in the business.

Beard on Pasta
Published in Hardcover by Knopf (March, 1983)
Author: James A. Beard
Average review score:

Beard on Pasta
This is one of my favorite cookbooks. The recipe for Pasta and Beans is something of a winter staple in my house. Just like Mr. Beard told me, I serve it with red wine and good bread. The macaroni and cheese is also great as well as the fish stew...

Questions Answered!
I had a number of questions regarding pasta. Every time I made pasta something different would happen. This book answered my questions and some I didn't even know I had! He teaches you how to make pasta by hand and by many different machines. He recommends trying all of the methods to find what works best for you. I have not tried many of the sauces yet, but I like the variety available. He believes that pasta is not just for Italian dishes and includes sauce recipes for many ethnicities. For novice pasta makers this is the book to have!

In constant use in my kitchen
This is one of my cookbooks which never gets put away. I proposed over a serving of the Pesto, and now my kids demand the macaroni and cheese. Some of the dishes seem like crazy combinations, but have become pot luck favorites. The pastitisio and the basil lasagne were big hits. No clunkers here.

The Best Man's Handbook: A Guy's Guide to the Big Event
Published in Hardcover by Running Press (May, 1999)
Authors: Jim Grace and James H. Grace
Average review score:

Great book to help you get prepared!
I am definitely glad I purchased this book. While I had a pretty good idea of what I was required to do as the Best Man, this book gave me a lot of helpful hints as well as some good ideas. A lot of people congratulated me on how well a job I did as the best man. This book helped a great deal in being prepared and ready for any possible scenario that may have come up. It is very easy to read and has a great sense of humor.

The perfect primmer for a most important job.
Having never been married or even been a part of a wedding party before, I was tapped to go to France and be the best man for one of my oldest friends (25 years). This with 3 weeks notice! The book was instrumental in allowing me to successfully perform my function with a minimum of stress. It was an easy read, it was humorous, and it was comprehensive. I could not have done without it. Thank you for the help Mr. Grace.

This Is The Only Book You'll Need!
I bought this book because my fiance was about to be the best man in a wedding. He was nervous because he had no idea what best men do. This book was all he needed. It tells what the best man's duties are to the groom, bride and everyone else. Tells about etiquette and even talks about what to do in specific religious or cultural weddings. What we found even more useful was it's section on speeches and toasts. We had bought a book especially for that, but it wasn't any good. This book explained the do's and don'ts and gave great examples that helped my fiance to write a great speech. (by the way, his speech went beautifully) He got a big laugh from the crowd and an Ahhh. Just what you want. This book is a must have for any groomsmen or Best man.

Biblical Quotations for All Occasions : From the World's Greatest Source, Over 2,000 Timeless Quotes to Enrich Your Message
Published in Paperback by Prima Publishing (March, 1999)
Author: J. Stephen Lang
Average review score:

Top of the Line for Usefulness
I got this book for Christmas and have enjoyed just browsing through it, though I expect it to be useful as a reference book as well. I think the author (or maybe the publisher) did a neat job of updating the King James Version so that the quotes sound poetic but are still easy to understand. (They did away with all the words like 'thee' and 'thou' and so on.) I have recommended this to people in my church because I think its topical arrangement makes it easy to find what you're looking for in practically any subject area.

Something New for My Reference Library
I found this to be a very useful desk reference book, also interesting just for leafing through when I have some down time at my job. I had not realized before that so many familiar quotes and phrases come from the Bible. The book is organized by topics in alphabetical order, making it easy to look things up. There is also a very handy index. It is not in hardback but has that kind of 'sturdy paperback' binding, so should hold up well after a lot of use.

Great Reference Book!
This has been useful to me for magazine writing. I also do some speaking at my women's group, and this is a great source of quotes. It is organized by topics, so it makes it easy to locate just the right quote for what you need. One interesting difference between this and other quotation books is that the author has used the King James Version of the Bible but has carefully modernized some of the difficult "antique" words from the old version. I think that helps a lot, because in places the King James could be hard to understand.

Biology & Diseases of the Ferret
Published in Hardcover by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins (15 August, 1998)
Authors: James G. Fox, Jame G. Fox, and Fax
Average review score:

four paws for me
This book isn't really meant for pet owners, but for those interested in biology, its a good resource. Despite a fairly thorough review of what's known about ferret bio, its decidedly lacking in some areas. One example is the coverage of vision, which is so small it seems a mere afterthought. We're not even treated with a cross-section of the ferret eye, nor any kind of detailed analysis of rod/cone density, optic nerve cross section, and how these might influence visual resolution. Each chapter, however, does include a list of references.

I'll give five paws
this book is a must for caring ferret owners, especially for those who live in a region where medical information about these animals are not so readily available.

An excellent resource for technical ferret information.
Whilst this book isn't for every ferret owner, it is certainly a signifcant reference for veterinarians, animal technicians, biliogists or the really serious ferret owner. With indepth articles on certain topics (theres a massive section on neurology) most aspects of ferrets biology and diseases are covered in this text. Although the information is becoming a little dated, an update to the text is due out soon. A worthwhile read for anyone who has the time and patience to study it.

Bipolar Disorder: Rebuilding Your Life
Published in Paperback by Cypress House (May, 2002)
Author: James T. Stout
Average review score:

A humane look at bipolar disorder
This is a very good memoir about the author's struggle with and recovery from bipolar disorder. It reminded me a little of "Manic by Midnight" in that an important message of the story is how to rebuild your life in the wake of the disorder, particularly in the wake of mania. The quality of writing is pretty good, as the author writes well enough to bring the story vividly to life. Not being too religious myself, I nonetheless didn't mind the juxtaposition of religion with the story, and if anything this contributed to the story. Overall, an interesting read. Avery Z. Conner, author of "Fevers of the Mind".

Brilliant!
Precise, Great Advise. A true Bipolar Recovery book. I have never seen a self help book I couldn't put down. A great book for all those who suffer from Bipolar. Especially those who were victims of abuse. Speaks to those in commons language. Doesn't preach. Speaks of the importance of medication. A must own.

Personal view of bipolar from a sufferer
"Bipolar Disorder" is not a book of technical diagnosis and treatment techniques for the disorder. Quite different from similar books on the subject it is the personal story of the life and experiences of the author. Rev. James T. Stout opens up his heart and his life to public scrutiny in order to provide a thorough picture of the thinking patterns and problems of people with bipolar disorder. And yet, as he goes through his various experiences, interlaid within the story itself is the story of how rebuilt his life, the strategies that worked, the techniques that benefited his life, and how he has become more in control of his moods. It is a story of hope and practical guidance for those dealing with bipolar disorder or those who know someone with the disorder. The author masterfully leads the reader through learning to rebuild their life without resorting to jargon or a cold, sterile treatise on the disorder. Intensely personal, highly educational, it is a highly recommended read for anyone wanting to know more about bipolar disorder for whatever their reason.

Birth in a Chicken House: A Collection of Stories by James Lucas, Dvm
Published in Hardcover by Stone Tablets Pub (August, 1999)
Authors: Michael Lynch and James, Dvm Lucas
Average review score:

True life of a rural veterinarian
As a farm kid and a veterinary student, I found this book to be extremely realistic and funny. I enjoyed his stories recalling veterinary school and farm calls. Dr. Lucas tells it how it is. It is a good eye opener for people interested in large animal veterinary medicine and the life one has because of it. If you come from a farm you will certainly enjoy this book.

Perceptive, funny, wonderful reading.
James Lucas is a seasoned veterinarian playing his trade in southern Iowa for more than 36 years. He kept notes of his experiences with the people and animals he encountered throughout his career. In Birth In A Chicken House, Lucas draws upon those personal reminiscences to spin out his humorous true-life tales that will engage the reader's rapt attention from first page to last. Highly recommended reading for anyone who loves a good yarn well told, Birth In A Chicken House provides perceptive and very funny descriptions of the animals and culture, the beauty and history of a rural farming community, and the dedicated veterinarian that served their needs.

a must for short-story lovers who need a laugh
Birth in a Chicken House is a great read for anyone who has experienced life in a rural setting, and it's a must read for anyone in the 50s' plus era. As you read the stories, it's as if Dr. Lucas is sitting across the table from you telling a story. He writes it just like it happened. I found myself laughing out loud many, many times as he related his personal accounts of people and animals...I think almost everyone can identify with his experiences. The short story format makes it a great book for busy people to pick up for a few minutes and read a story. However, once you start reading it, you'll probably not want to put it down.
